SFLaB

With over 20 years as a professional photographer and a decade running the YouTube channel "Shoot Film Like a Boss" (SFLaB), my journey is deeply rooted in a lifelong passion for photography. Every product began as a personal prototype, built and rigorously tested by hand during my own photographic adventures.

After countless viewers asked, "Where did you get that strap?", I decided it was time to share them. Today, we’ve teamed up as a family, pairing decades of field experience with meticulous hand-crafting, to bring these trusted accessories to like-minded photographers.

Frequently asked questions

My Alverstone Wrist Strap feels a bit firm!

It's brand new—just like a good quality pair of new leather shoes or a wallet. It just takes time to break in and mold to your shooting style. Every time you use your strap, the natural fibers in the leather will start to soften and become more flexible. If you want to speed the 'breaking in' process up, you can watch a good movie or a heap of SFLaB YouTube videos while bending and shaping the strap in your hand.

How do I care for my product?

The Alverstone Wrist Strap, Arreton and Merstone Film Straps are crafted from premium, full-grain Conceria Walpier Tuscan vegetable-tanned leather and high-grade hardware, designed to age beautifully over years of field use.

  • Leather Care: Because vegetable-tanned leather loves a little nourishment, we recommend conditioning it periodically (every few months, or after heavy exposure to the elements) using an all-natural leather balm. All products leave us conditioned with German-made Effax Leather Balm containing avocado oil, real lanolin, and beeswax, which will keep your new strap jumping for joy for years to come. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or synthetic oils
  • Cleaning: If your strap gets dusty or muddy in the field, simply wipe it down with a clean, slightly damp microfiber cloth and let it dry naturally away from direct heat.
  • Hardware & Canisters: The solid hardware and custom aluminium screw-top canisters require minimal maintenance. If exposed to coastal salt air or heavy moisture, just wipe them down dry to keep the finish pristine.
  • The Patina: Over time, exposure to sunlight and the natural oils from your hands will cause the leather to darken and develop a unique, rich patina that tells the story of your journeys.

What happens if my strap gets caught in the rain?

  • Natural Water Resistance: Full-grain vegetable-tanned leather naturally handles light rain and moisture well but try to keep away from water/rain if possible.
  • If Caught in a Downpour: If your strap gets thoroughly soaked, simply wipe off any excess water with a clean, dry cloth and let it air dry naturally at room temperature.
  • Important Rule: Never use a hairdryer, heater, or direct sunlight to speed up the drying process, as excessive heat can cause the leather to dry out, stiffen, or crack.
  • Post-Rain Care: Once the leather is completely dry, you can apply a light coat of natural leather conditioner or salve to restore its moisture and keep the fibres supple.
Where are your products made?

Every strap is meticulously handcrafted right here on the Isle of Wight. We source our premium, full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Conceria Walpier in Tuscany, Italy, bringing together traditional Italian tanning heritage.
